Nielsen, Pearl (Mrs. Arnold Elroy) 1938-2024

Mrs. Pearl Nielsen, age 86, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in George.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, November 23, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at the American Reformed Church in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Mark Cercone officiating. Interment will follow the service at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl was born on May 18, 1938, on her family’s farm near Rock Valley, the daughter of Henry and Dena (Brinkman) Van Veldhuizen. She attended country school through the eighth grade.

She was united in marriage to Arnold R. Sohl on April 13, 1973, in Sioux Center. They made their home on a farm near Doon, where they raised their two children. In addition to being a homemaker, Pearl helped Arnie with the farm chores, and together, they were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull. Arnold passed away on September 2, 2005, in Rock Rapids, after more than 32 years of marriage.

On January 8, 2010, she married Arnold Elroy Nielsen, in Hull, where they made their home, and were members of the American Reformed Church. Arnold passed away on June 3, 2022, in Rock Rapids. For the past several years, Pearl has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in George.

Pearl’s family was important to her, and she loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed collecting figurines of angels and birds.

Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Luella and Jeff Techen, of Ashton; and Glenn and Tracy Sohl, of Oregon; six step-children, Charlotte Rath, of Rock Rapids; Kenneth Nielsen, and his wife, Nancy; and Martha Nielsen all of Hull; Lisa, and her husband, Kevin Welch; and Diane Hofer, all of Sheldon; and Martin Nielsen, and his wife, Sandy, of Hull; six grandchildren; nineteen step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; forty-one step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Della, and her husband, Marlo Muth, of Akron; two brothers, Bernie Van Veldhuizen, of Rock Valley; and Lester Van Veldhuizen, and his wife, Harriet, of Doon; and a sister-in-law, Garlene Van Veldhuizen, of Doon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a step-son-in-law, LeRoy Rath; three sisters and their husbands, Henrietta and Marv Vander Weide; Verna and Hank Wallenburg; and Gretta and Cornie Van Middendorp; a brother, John Van Veldhuizen; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Van Veldhuizen.

Memorials will be given to the family for future designation.
