Mrs. Shirley Mouw, age 93, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, November 23, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a funeral service celebrating her life on Saturday, at 2:00pm, at the church with the Rev. Bryce Vander Stelt officiating. Interment will take place at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City at a later date. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Faye was born on March 5, 1931, in Sioux Center, the daughter of John T. and Mary (Bonnema) Oliver. She was raised in Sioux Center and attended the Sioux Center High School, where she was active in music and theater. Following her graduation in 1949, she began working at the school as a secretary for the superintendent.

She married Lorenz Austin “Butch” Mouw on December 26, 1951, at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They made their home in Orange City, where they raised their family. After her children started school, she began working at Showcase Clothing in Orange City, as a women’s clothing salesman for nearly twenty years. Butch passed away on May 27, 1996, in Orange City, after more than 44 years of marriage. In 2020, Shirley moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, and in 2023, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mrs. Mouw was a member of the American Reformed Church, where she was active in the women’s organizations and sang in the choir and a trio. She also volunteered in the outpatient department of the Orange City Hospital for nineteen years. She enjoyed music and theater, reading books, playing card games, and watching Northwestern College basketball and volleyball games.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Lance and Jane Mouw, of Clinton, Missouri; a daughter and her husband, Shelley and Doug Schuver, of Granville; five grandchildren, Brittany Mouw; Baily Mouw; Christopher Schuver, and his wife, Jana; Daniel Schuver, and his wife, Trisha; and Matthew Schuver; four great-grandsons, Nathan, Andrew, Hudson, and Benett Schuver; a brother and his wife, Roger and Carol Oliver, of Rock Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Lisa Ann Mouw; and six siblings and their spouses, Kathleen and Duane Gage; Vivian and Harold Ageson; Ruth and Ceel Vanden Brink; Jack and Louise Oliver; Phyllis and John Zeutenhorst; and Virginia and Henrich Krayenbrink.

Memorials will be given to the American Reformed Church and the Orange City Area Health System.
