Hi ! I just googled my great grandfather's name and I saw your query. I have been trying to locate his birthplace for years. I am pretty sure it is Davenport, NE, not Iowa. I have inquired at both locations but cannot locate his birth certificate. He married Bertha Clara Packer and had 6 kids, including my grandfather. They divorced in the 1930's he left the family. He moved to Denver where he died in 1956. Rumor has it that he started a new family there and became a Salvation Army chaplain. His father's name was Carlton S. Bean and his mother's name was Dora Elizabeth Thomas. They resided in McHenry County, Illinois for a while. I believe that Carlton Bean came from Fairfield County, CT. Herbert and Bertha had 3 sons and 3 daughters ( I believe) My grandfather was John McKinley Packer Bean. He passed away last summer and was the last surviving child.
