My relatives, Nathaniel Prentice (1823-1911), Ellen Bancroft (1812-?), and Robert James Cessford (1850-1905), lived in Sac County, Boyer Valley, between 1850 - 1886. Nathaniel had 10 children by first wife, Maria. After his wife died, he married Sarah Bancroft. They had one child, my great grandfather, Mark Luther Prentice (1879-1935).
Nathaniel's father, Isaac Prentice (1796-1876), also moved to Sac County late in life and lived in Early about the same time (1850s, 1860s and 1870s). Nathaniel also had several siblings who lived in Sac County, including Ozro Prentice.
It appears from the 1880 census that the Bancroft and the Prentice families lived close to one another in Sac County. They were farmers.
In 1886, Nathaniel Prentice, Sarah Bancroft Prentice, and their young son moved to southern Louisiana where they purchased a very large ranch. They became rice farmers. Ellen Bancroft moved with her daughter and son-in-law (the Prentices) and lived with the family in Louisiana until her death. Some of Nathaniel's children moved south with Nathaniel but most stayed in Iowa.
Robert James Cessford, who lived in Sac County for about 10-15 years (1870-1882?), also moved to Louisiana in the early 1880's. His daughter, Annie Laurie Cessford (born in Louisiana in 1884), married Mark Luther Prentice in Louisiana about 1903.
Robert James Cessford had many relatives in Iowa during the mid-1800's; we believe he followed an uncle (John Beattie Cessford) there from Robert's home in Utica, New York about 1870.
Any information about any living descendents of these people or family stories about these people would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
