Thomas Schroeder
February 11, 1955 - January 3, 2022Tom Schroeder, age 66 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at his home in Wall Lake. Thomas Clayton Schroeder was delivered by his grandfather in Carroll, IA, on February 11, 1955, to parents Clayton and Mary (Blum) Schroeder. He grew up on the farm south of Odebolt where he attended St Martin’s Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated with the Class of 1973 from Odebolt-Arthur High School. Tom was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church.
On October 5, 1974, Tom was united in marriage to Diane Simonson and this union was blessed with six children: Justin, Tara, Cora, Tiffany, Taylor, and Tommy. They made their first home in Mapleton for two years. Continuing to farm with his family, they moved to a home near the family farm where they resided for nine years. After moving to town in Wall Lake, Tom started a trucking company. Because of his passion for Wall Lake, he became city manager and helped to bring Western Iowa Energy (WIE) to town. As the bioindustry grew, he was employed by Renewable Energy Group (REG) and thoroughly enjoyed his travels selling their product.
In his free time, Tom loved hunting, going on fishing trips, riding the ranger around town with the grandkids, running his black labs, and visiting his children and grandchildren. He was always ready for an adventure out west and recently enjoyed his last elk hunt with Justin, Taylor & Tommy in Wyoming. Cora has vivid memories of the alligator hunt in Florida and Tiff thought she was eaten alive by mosquitos on her bear hunt with him in Canada. He was proud of his grandkids and told many stories as he was usually with them as they caught their first walleye or shot their first pheasant, deer, turkey or antelope. Each morning, he was one of the first customers at Doc’s Place for his daily morning coffee. Tom never forgot to check in on his children and was known to make several phone calls to them on a daily basis. Never short for words, he often gave advice to everyone who knew him whether you asked or not.
