Phyllis Beverly Auen
February 20, 1937 - October 2, 2021Phyllis Beverly Druivenga was born Feb 20, 1937 in the Carroll, Iowa hospital and passed on Oct 2, 2021 at Twilight Acres. She was the oldest daughter of John Edwin and Minerva Julia (Heim) Druivenga.
She attended Jackson #3 and Levey #7 country schools and graduated from Wall Lake High School as valedictorian in 1955. She worked as Secretary of the Wall Lake Community School from May of 1955 until July 1996. In 1996, the school became WLVA and in 2011, East Sac County Community School.
She was united in marriage to Virgil Lee Auen on August 7, 1955 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kathleen Lynn and Lori Lee. Phyllis and Virgil lived on farms near Wall Lake and danced at many of the local halls. They moved into Wall Lake after retirement.
She enjoyed family, genealogy, cards, volunteerism, and spending the winters in Caliente Casa del Sol in Florence, Arizona. Many will remember her for her work as an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church, and officer of the Wall Lake Historical Society, Lutheran Brotherhood, Thrivent and Wall Lake Alumni Association for 24 years plus as a 4-H leader for 11 years. In Arizona, she volunteered at the Florence Senior Center, the Caliente newsletter and wrote the history of Caliente.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathleen (David) Auen Stienstra of Terre Haute, IN and son- in-law JR Lapel of Wall Lake, IA; sister Patricia Wilkes (Rick Miller); brother-in-law Robert Altmanshofer; grandchildren Jonathan (Abby) Lapel, Lindi (Tom) Reburn, Lacey (Ricky) Bruning, and Matthew Stienstra; great grandchildren Justin Lapel, Carter, Ellie, Parker and Paxton Reburn, Levi and Taylor Lapel; niece Jodi (Gary) Hubbard and their children Cory (Tammi) and Rob (Kate) Lynch, Chase (Jill) and Taylor Hubbard; nephew Michael (Dawn) Altmanshofer and their son Karl Altmanshofer.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Minerva Druivenga, her sister Joan Altmanshofer, her husband Virgil Auen, and her younger daughter Lori Lapel.
