I located Thomas and his family in the 1895 Ringgold County Iowa state census. By the 1900 census, his wife is listed as a widow. So he must have died between 1895 and 1900.

In 1900, Ann M. Lewis is listed as owning land with a mortgage. I suggest you check the Ringgold County Probate records between 1895-1900 for a probate for Thomas. Probate includes dying testate (with a will) or intestate (without a will). If a probate does not exist, there has to be a land record which should give some information.

Probably there will be a probate which will indicate the mortgage and any other properties owned. It should also give the date and hopefully place of death and tombstone/cemetery plot purchase. Hope it works!!
