According to William CONE's
obituary , he did die at Wirt on November 21, 1883, which would pre-date the move from Wirt to Ellston (if I have my dates correct).NOTE: Margaret Motter had posted on the query board at
ancestry.com : "I am looking for anyone in Ringgold County who would be kind enough to check and see if there is an obit for William Cone, b. 1815, Vt, died Nov. 21, 1883, in Ringgold Co, and is buried there. He was marrried to Rosanna Free, and had 9 children with her, all of whom went to Iowa with them. His parents were Joseph and Phebe Cone, and he went to Iowa from Ohio, about 1869. Thanks to this forum, I was able to find him a while back, and would now like to see if there is more about him, as I know very little. I also cannot find where Rosanna went after he died. Does anyone have any idea or connection? Thanks in advance for any help that can be given."William CONE Sr. does not appear in the WPA Graves Survey database or at findagrave.com.
Margaret Motter later posted on the query board at
ancestry.com : "I am looking for info on the family of JOHN LONG- ROSANNA CONE. In the 1880 census,of UNION TOWNSHIP, RINGGOLD COUNTY, IOWA, they are present living down the road from WILLIAM H. CONE, ROSANNA FREE CONE, HER parents. I have not found a marriage record or death record for ROSANNA CONE LONG. I feel certain this is the right person because of the name, date of birth, place of birth, and the fact she is just down the road. In the 1885 STATE OF IOWA CENSUS, they are still there, in the same place, but by the time of the 1895 STATE CENSUS, JOHN LONG was there with some of the children, and his mother, POLLY LONG, but NO ROSANNA. Is there anyone who has any information on this family? IF so, I would sure like to hear from them. THe CONE family has been very hard to trace, the girls especially, and their families. I feel certain that ROSANNA CONE LONG would have died in Ringgold, probably Union Twp., because her husband is still there after she is missing. Her death would have to be between 1885-1895, unless she was just not present in their home at the time, which is doubtful. ANY help would be so appreciated!"
