Obituary - Truman Baker
Truman V. Baker, son of William H. Baker and Margaret Estella Baker, was born July 16, 1894, in Decatur county, Iowa and departed this life July 27, 1958, at the age of 64 years and 11 days.
The early years of his life were spent on a farm near Grand River, in Decatur County. In the spring of 1918 he entered the service of his country and was honorably discharged in the spring of 1919. He was a member of Kellerton Post 676, American Legion and a charter member of the Kellerton Lions Club.
On August 3, 1919, he was united in marriage with Lula V. Maggard and they established their home in Kellerton. This union as blessed with three children - Truman V. Baker, Jr. of New Troy, Mich., Mrs. Rex [Arlyne] Hampton of Burlington, and Mrs. Bernard [Roberta] Chapman of Emily, Minnesota.
He was employed as a mechanic in Kellerton until 1931, when he accepted employment as a mechanic for Ringgold County in which capacity he continued until the time of his illness, September 30, 1957.
Mr. Baker loved his home and his home community where he had spent his life. He was a devoted husband and father and practiced the true principles of a Christian and a good citizen. His friends lament his passing and will always remember him as a loyal friend and a kind, splendid neighbor, ever ready to be helpful in time of need.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Lula; his three children; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McConnell and Mrs. Fern Brown of California, Nellie Stevens of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Florence Haynes of Creston; a brother Lyman of Kellerton, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Military services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 29, at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Kellerton, conducted by the Rev. M. J. Nash, of Hamburg, and the Rev. Vernon Norris. Music was provided by Mrs. Vernon Norris and Mrs. Joe Hainline, accompanied by Mrs. Louise Meadows. Interment as in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.
