Obituary - William H. Baker
William Henry Baker, son of Joseph and Sarah Baker, was born September 10, 1858, in Dubuque county, Iowa, and departed this life August 18, 1952, at the age of 93 years, 11 months and eight days.
The early years of his life were spent in Delaware county, Iowa, and he later moved with his parents to Decatur county, Iowa.
In 1879 he as united in marriage to Margaret Estella Beck and they established their home in Decatur county. To this union were born seven children. He as preceded in death by his wife in November, 1913 and a son Robert.
In the winter of 1920, Mr. Baker came to make his home in Kellerton with his son and daughter in law, Truman and Lula Baker where he had a real home and every comfort, kindly consideration and care until his death. Through these years, neighbors and friends have known him as a man of honesty and kindness. He was always ready with a word of cheer or a helpful deed for those about him, and, all who knew him best, respected him most.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Stevens of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Elizabeth McConnell, of Des Moines, Mrs. Florence Haines [Haynes] of Creston, and Mrs. Ferne Brown, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two sons, Truman and Lyman Baker of Kellerton; 34 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, two brothers, John Baker of Culver City, Calif., and Richard Baker of Grand River, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, August 20, at two o'clock, from the Methodist church in Kellerton, conducted by the rev. W. T. Miller. Interment was in the Woodmansee cemetery.
