OBITUARY - MRS. GEORGE WHITE
Orrel Almina LONG, the second daughter of James LONG and Matilda BROWN LONG, was born in Montgomery county, Iowa, February 28, 1872.
She was married to George Wesley WHITE June 2, 1893, while living in South Dakota. Following a crop failure in South Dakota, they sold their [possessions?] and came to Ringgold county by covered wagon, arriving in the fall of 1905. To this union three children were born: Eunice Elva WHITE KILGORE, who survives her mother; Lena Verna WHITE, who died in infancy; and Clarence Warden, who died November 7, 1918, while serving with the U.S. navy in World War I. Her husband preceded her in death more than 21 years ago [1924]. From that time until eight months ago, she made her home in Diagonal.
She was an active member of the Diagonal Church of Christ and a regular attendant at services until her health made it impossible for her to attend. Her condition gradually became worse and she finally had to give up her home and went to the home of her daughter, north of Diagonal, where she was cared for until her death on July 19, 1945, at the age of 73 years, four months and 21 days.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and leaves to mourn her death her daughter and son-in-law, three grandsons, George S., and Edwin A., at home, and Lawrence Ivan KILGORE, apprentice seaman, stationed at the Great Lakes, Ill. Naval Training Center; two granddaughters, Edna Marie and Ruth Ina KILGORE. She is survived also by a brother, A[lfred]. S. LONG of Woonsocket, N.D., and a sister, Mrs. Reba SPIESE of Matt___, ILL., besides two half brothers whose places of residence are not know. Besides the family, she will be missed by a host of other relatives and friends.
God in His infinite wisdom has taken her from her home to that place where pain and affliction is unknown, but she will be missed by all her loved ones.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 21, at 2:00 p.m., in the Diagonal Church of Christ, with Kenneth HUNT, of Kellerton, officiating. Burial was at the Diagonal cemetery under the direction of the Ivan Crew Funeral Home.
