Ernest Charles MATHANY, only son of Aaron W. and Margaret E. MATHANY, was born October 13, 1874, in Monroe township, Ringgold county, Iowa, and passed away November 14, 1956, at Ellston, at the age of 82 years, one month and one day. Mr. MATHANY was fatally injured about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning of last week while on his way to hunt. He was born on the present site of the town of Beaconsfield. When four or five months of age the family moved to the home place, where he resided until three years ago, when he moved to Ellston. On November 4, 1896, he was united in marriage with Amy Gertrude CLATON. To this union were born a daughter, Elva BUELL, of Ellston, and a son, Francis, who preceded him in death. He had enjoyed his usual good health until about five years ago and on November 4th of this year [1956] was privileged to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary.
He was a man of sterling qualities, highly respected by all who knew him, a splendid neighbor and a good father. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Ida DADY, Mrs. Flora SHORT and Mrs. Ella FENDER. Left to mourn his passing are his widow and daughter; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Interment was in Oliver cemetery.
