OBITUARY - D. D. SHACKLETT.

D. D. SHACKLETT, an old and respected resident of this community, passed away at his home in north Kellerton on August 7th, after an illness of several months. He has been up and around until on Sunday when he took to his bed and gradually grew worse until he passed away.

David D. SHACKLETT was the son of Mezerziah and Mary SHACKLETT and was born in Elizabethtown, Ohio, October 19, 1854, and was at the time of his death 73 years, nine months and 18 days old. He came to Ringgold county in 1876 and engaged in farming and stock and moved to Kellerton.

He was united in marriage to Mary D. PERKINS December 16, 1886, and to this union three daughters and one son were born; Mrs. J. A. MANNASMITH of this city and Mrs. F. L. HUFF, of Upton, Wyo. David D. the son and Iva Retta, one daughter having died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father his wife and two daughters, Mrs. J[ohn]. A. MANNASMITH, of this city, and Mrs. F. L. HUFF and one grandson, David D. HUFF, of Upton, Wyo., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday from the home and were largely attended by old neighbors and friends and the body was laid to rest in Maple Row Cemetery [Kellerton].

NOTE: Mary D. (PERKINS), wife of David D. SHACKLETT, was born in 1864, and died in 1935. Their son David D. was born January 23, 1892, and died January 30, 1892. Their daughter Iva Retta died at the age of two years, eleven months and seven days on October 26, 1895. They were interred at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
