Born in Watertown, New York, July 3, 1930. Joined her Heavenly Father on Oct. 6, 2011 at age 81. Graduate of Binghamton Central High School (NY) and Green Mountain College (VT). Married to Robert Tupper Mable in 1951, in Greene NY. Parents of five children, moved to Johnston, Iowa in 1964. Active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Partner in Folk Art Shop, Valley Junction, West Des Moines. Noted artist and teacher.
Her love of family and friends is evident to all who knew her. In her enthusiasm for life she was nurtured by her faith, and she enjoyed being creative through her art. She loved being near water with her boat and kayak to collect driftwood.
Left to cherish her memory are children; Jackie (Russ) Leckband, Earlham, IA, Jill (Tom) Clark, Romania, Skip (Katie) Mable, Lancaster, PA, Betsy (Eric) Peterson, Perry, IA, Dave (Dee) Mable, Urbandale IA. Eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild, her brother Jack (Shirley) Wedge and beloved nieces, nephews and families. She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and E. Lucretia Wedge, brother Donald Wedge and former husband Robert Mable.
She and her family are so grateful for all of the love, support and comfort they have received.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or to the Care Coordinator Program at John Stoddard Cancer Center.
Visitation begins 4 p.m. Thursday October 13, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Rd. Des Moines, IA 50322where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Celebration of Life Service Friday Oct. 14, 11 a.m. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 5720 Urbandale Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.
