Last Rites Held Friday Afternoon For H. A. Mackie
Funeral services for Howard A. Mackie, 52, who died unexpectedly on March 29 at his home in Laurens, were held Friday. There was a family service at 11:30 a.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home and final rites at 2 p.m. at East Side Church of Christ.
The Rev. Emmett Nafe of Dallas, Tex., a former pastor of the church, officiated. Robert Anderson of Linn Grove, accompanied by Mrs. Anderson, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were James Dexter, August Roewe, Garth Hopkins, Howard, Richards, Darold Brown, and George Crowell. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery.
Bom in 1907
Howard A. Mackie, son of William Stewart arid Mary Elizabeth Mackie, was born Dec. 27, 1907, near Eagle Grove. In 1913 he moved with his parents to a farm 3 1/3 miles east of Laurens where he spent most of his life.
He attended and graduated from the Laurens Community School and in 1930 he Was united in marriage to Mabel Kemp. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters.
He was engaged in farming for 22 years before moving to Laurens in 1952. For a short time, he was the manager of the Farmers Cooperative Oil Station. Since 1956 he has been a serviceman for the Duraclean Rug and Upholstery Co. and also has been a technician for the Curtiss Farms of Carey. 111.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a baby daughter, and a granddaughter.
Survivors
Survivors include his wife and youngest son, Gene, at home; Jerry, stationed with the Army Reserve at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Anne (Mrs. Ronny) Walstead and Roger of Laurens; Mary Joy (Mrs. Harrison) Roberts of Rolfe; seven grandchildren and other relatives
