Funeral services held Wednesday for Mrs. Nina Mackie Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, June 12 at the Smith Funeral Home for Mrs. Nina M. Mackie.
Mrs. Mackie passed away Monday, June 10 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital at the age of 87 years and 1 month.
Rev. Leon Triggs officiated at the services. Mrs. Helen Ducommun was the organist and Dennis Larson sang "Beyond the Sunset " and "The Old Rugged Cross; "
Pallbearers were Michael Lindstrom, Larry Mackie, Dean Bussey, Dennis Bussey, David Faulkner, and Stuart Boughey. Interment was in Laurens Cemetery with arrangements under the care of the Smith Funeral Home, Laurens.
Nina M. Mackie
Nina M. Mackie was born May 10, 1898, in Merrill, Wisconsin to Albert and Eda Lucas Best. Nina grew up and received her education in schools in Wausau, Wisconsin. She was employed as a receptionist in a doctor's office before her marriage in 1916 to Reynard Bussey. To this union, one son, Lionel V. Bussey was born.
She and her son came to Iowa in 1921 and she has made her home in Laurens since that time. On December 23, 1922, she was united in marriage to Hugh L. Mackie. They farmed east of Laurens, moving into Laurens in 1932 where she was employed by M. & J. R. Hakes, Sundholm Manufacturing of Albert City, and then for Twin Draulic, retiring from there in 1963.
Nina was a member of the First Christian Church of Laurens and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Lionel Bussey of Laurens and Stewart Mackie of Spencer, and two daughters, Roberta, Mrs. Lowell Lindstrom of Sutherland and Violetta, Mrs. Darold Faulkner of Sumner, 20 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her. husband who passed away in 1959, a son, George who died in 1977, one sister, and three brothers.
