Funeral services for Frank J. Harms were conducted in St. John's Lutheran Church in May City on Tuesday afternoon, October 9, 1962 with the Rev. E.A. Fritz officiating. Members of St. John's choir sang two hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "Asleep In Jesus," with Miss Elsie Jurgemeyer at the organ.
Fred Thies, Dewey Hocking, Ray Boom, Henry Poppen, Carl Vagle and Henry Tewes, all sons in-law of the deceased, served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hanna Stamp, Mrs. Emil Hein and Mrs. Harvey Donnenwerth were in charge of the flower.
Interment took place in the Harrison Township Cemetery.
Frank J. Harms was called to his eternal rest on Saturday evening, October 6, at 8:45 p.m. He attained the age of 92 years and 12 days.
Frank J. Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harms was born on September 24, 1870 in Germany. Here he was received into membership of the Lutheran Church by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. At the age of 14 he renewed his baptismal covenant by the rite of Confirmation. Throughout his long life he remained a faithful and loyal member of the Lutheran Church.
Shortly after the death of his mother, he and his father came to this country and made their home near Remsen, Iowa. In the year 1899 he moved to a farm south of Harris, Iowa. Two years later he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Behrens on February 16, 1901. This union the Lord blessed with six daughters and six sons.
In the year 1942 he retired and moved to May City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, who died on February 13, 1954.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his six daughters, Mrs. Theresa Thies of Correctionville,
Iowa; Mrs. Nana Hocking of Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Boom and Mrs. Marie Poppen of Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie Vagle of Alpha, Minnesota; Mrs. Emma Tewes of Jackson, Minnesota; his six sons, Earl of Harris, Iowa; John of Melvin, Iowa; Harold of Hartley, Iowa; Leroy of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Lawrence of Harris, Iowa; and Donald of Ocheyedan, Iowa; his 41 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, also other relatives and a host of friends.
