Sophia (Newkirk) Buchholz was born April 17, 1884 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Mary (Eden) Newkirk and died Oct. 12, 1974 at Lake Park Care Center.
As a small child she moved with her parents from Iowa County to May City where she lived until her marriage to William Buchholz on March 15, 1905.
The couple farmed until 1938, then retired to Spirit Lake and later to Arnolds Park.
Survivors include: one son, Gilbert of Spirit Lake; six daughters, Mrs. Edna Lamaack of Windom, Minn., Mrs. Laverna Peters of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Wilma Trierweiler of Greenville, Mrs. Thelma Ferguson of Heron Lake, Minn., Mrs. Darline Graves of Arnolds Park; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Friends Church in Arnolds Park with the Rev. Paul Baiotto officiating.
Music was provided by Bill Ferguson and Mrs. Paul Baiotto. Pallbearers were: Floyd Elison, Darwin Ferguson, James Graves, Arliss Lamaack, Clifford Muilenberg, Paul Trierweiler.
Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery at Melvin with the Leyson Funeral Home in charge.
