FATAL AUTO ACCIDENT
A.F. Buchholz of Melvin, Suddenly Killed Monday Evening.
Resided In County Over Thirty Years. Funeral Friday Afternoon at 2:00 O'clock.
Melvin, May 15 - Monday evening this community was shocked to hear of the accidental death of August F. Buchholz, victim of an auto accident. The car which he was driving turned over, breaking his neck, causing instantaneous death.
Mr. Buchholz started alone in his car for the home of John Struyk, a few miles southwest of Melvin. After selling a silo to Mr. Struyk, he started home about half past eight o'clock. About nine o'clock Raymond Stevens and Wm. Reicks, while motoring in the vicinity of the Struyk home, discovered the overturned car of Mr. Buchholz, about fifteen rods from the Struyk home. The deceased was pinioned under the car. The car was lifted off the body immediately and Dr. Fillenworth was called. An examination revealed that the victim sustained a broken neck and that in all probability death was instantaneous. When Mr. Buchholz left the Struyk home, the lights of his car were not turned on, while when the overturned car was discovered, the lights were on. It is believed the accident occurred while the driver was turning on the lights. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house. Services will be also held at the church.
The deceased was well and favorably known in this community, where he has resided for over thirty years. For the last fifteen years he has been successfully engaged in the implement and hardware business in Melvin. He has been one of Melvin's splendid citizens, always boosting for every good cause. He was 57 years, 4 months and 20 days old at the time of his death. Aside from his wife, Fannie (Loger) Buchholz, he leaves six sons and a daughter - Wm., John D., Fred, Frank, and Louie of this place, Alfred now in aviation service in France; and Mrs. George R. Jacobs.
