Graveside services for Mrs. Walter (Irma Iowa) Smith, 93, were held at Overman cemetery, Atalissa, Oct. 27 with the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Pallbearers were Gerry Simmerman, Jerry Sloan, Tom and Bob Staack Jr., David Smith and Jerry Thompson.
Mrs. Smith died at Beloit, Wisc. Oct. 23.
The daughter of Elsworth and Lucinda Maudlin Connelly, she was born at Solon July 21, 1894. She married Walter A. Smith at Iowa City Dec. 24, 1914. She had lived in Atalissa and West Liberty before moving to Beloit 20 years ago.
She was a 65-year member of the Order of the Eastern star, Lotus chapter, West Liberty and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She provided nursing home care for many years.
She is survived by a son, W. Alan Smith, Durant; 3 daughters, Marjorie Staack, Beloit; Bernice Sloan, Muscatine and Bertha Alub, West Palm Beach, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, 2 brothers and a sister.
