10 July 2003Longtime Castana resident remembered
Floyd LeRoy Mauch, Sr., age 64, of Castana, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 4,
2003, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.Floyd was born November 12, 1938 on a farm in rural Castana, the son of Edward
George Sr. and Emma (Miller) Mauch. He was raised and educated in Castana.
June 6, 1959 he married Kay Merritt in Castana. They made their home in the Castana and Soldier communities.He was a tractor mechanic for 35 years at Collins John Deere in Mapleton, Iowa,
Heisterkamps John Deere in Onawa and Ford New Holland in Mapleton. Currently
he was employed at Schenkelberg Implement in Onawa. He also had been a bull dozer operator for Lloyd Olson.Floyd was confirmed and a member of Soldier Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, shooting sporting clays and skeet. He also enjoyed square dancing and did some calling. He had a special dog "Brownie".
Survivors include his wife, Kay of Castana; two sons, Floyd Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Danbury, Iowa and Rick of Dudley, Massachusetts and his special friend, Laurie; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Melissa Mauch, Gracyn and Kaylie Mauch and Alicia and Corey Blackmore; three sisters, Hilda Crosgrove of Bay
Point, California, Elaine Peters of Battle Creek, Iowa and Faye Mauch of Fort Dodge, Iowa and a brother, Orvel Mauch of Fort Dodge, Iowa.He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Marvin, Edward and Vernon.
Funeral services were Monday, July 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Steven Hetzel officiating. Music selections were
"One Day At A Time" and "The Old Rugged Cross" provided by Becky Marcum, soloist and Gilma Ahlers, organist.Burial was in Jordan Township Cemetery, Soldier. Visitation was 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present 6:00- 8:00 Sunday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Casket bearers were Ron Mauch, Jim Mauch, Richard Merritt , Charles Merritt, Roger Davis and Gary Bellis.
