STEFFEN IS DISCHARGED
Bartender is Warned and Escapes
Without Being FinedCharles Steffen, the bartender in the B. F. Parker saloon, on South Third Avenue, who was arrested last Friday night by Officer Lage, for keeping the place of business open after 10 o’clock, was discharged by Mayor Jones Wednesday afternoon. Steffen pleaded for leniency, owing to the fact that his watch was slow, and he had no intentions of keeping often after 10 o’clock. He said if Parker was fined it would cost him his job. Mayor Jones impressed on him the necessity of keeping strictly within the bounds of the law, and other offense would mean punishment.
