BROOKS FAMILY DISCHARGED

Colored People Not Held
Because of Lack of Evidence

Madison Brooks, wife and three children, colored, before Justice Clark Wednesday, on a charge of assault and battery, in inflicting wounds until little Clarence Mann, white, were discharged this morning. There was insufficient evidence to hold the colored people, although a doctor testified that he did not think the wounds could have been inflicted by the Brooks children alone. The evidence at hand showed that Mr. and Mrs. Brooks were away from the home at the time the assaults were made. It is likely further developments will arise in this case.
