Earlham, IowaDelores Jones, 96, of Earlham passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Adel Acres. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Monday, March 17th at the Bear Creek Friends Church, rural Earlham. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 17th at the church. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Delores was born May 8, 1929 to Ora and Genevieve Amos near Milo, Iowa. Her mother passed away during childbirth and she was later adopted by Fred and Mabel Smith. She grew up in the Motor Community and graduated from Indianola High School. She later graduated with her Bachelors Degree from Drake University in 1968. She taught kindergarten in De Soto for five years and then Van Meter for 27 years before retiring in 1990.
On September 4, 1949 she was united in marriage to Howard Jones at the Motor Friends Church. To this union three children were born: Roger, Rosemary, and Russell. The family lived briefly in New Sharon before moving to the home farmstead east of Earlham. Delores was very active in the Bear Creek Friends Church and held various positions. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and embroidering. She also spent many years tending to her rose beds.
She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Ora and Genevieve Amos; adopted parents, Fred and Mabel Smith; husband, Howard; son, Russell; and sister, Marjorie (Claire) Smith-Jones.
She is survived by her son, Roger (Patricia) Jones of Clive; daughter, Rosemary (William) Ralston of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Jason Jones, Jacquelyn Jones, Justin Jones, Stephanie (Chad) Welborn, Andrea (Steve) Cummings, David (Kriss) Ralston, Kurt Jones and Kris Jones; great-grandchildren: Cassie, Abby, Hannah (Bo), Shannon, Kate, Claire, Presley and Savannah; great-great-grandchildren, Garrett and Parker; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
