Craig Newton, 70, of Winterset, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Azria Health of Winterset.
Craig Reynolds Newton was born October 26, 1954, the son of William Newton and Constance (Reynolds) Newton Gorsuch. He grew up on the south side of Des Moines, where he graduated from Lincoln High School. Craig went on to earn a degree in Nursing from Grand View University and worked at several hospitals in Des Moines. He dedicated 20 years of service as a register nurse at Mercy Medical Center.
Craig married Marilyn Nordeen in 1978. They were blessed with three children, Joshua Jeremiah, and Elena.
Outside of his career, Craig was an avid reader and a history enthusiast. He was a member of the Winterset Rotary and Optimist Club for a time and contributed his efforts to the Madison County Republican Committee. Craig was known for his outgoing personality and his love for engaging with others.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; children, Joshua and Elena of West Des Moines; brother Bill (Sandy) Newton of Des Moines; sister-in-law Sonna Neumeister of Carver, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Newton and Constance Newton Gorsuch; stepfather, Max Gorsuch; son, Jermiah Newton; and brother, Stephen Newton.
Craig’s legacy of kindness, humor, and generosity will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
A memorial service honoring Craig will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. The family will greet friends prior, beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at caldwellparrish.com.
