Opal K. Hagedorn dies at Virginian Gay Annex

TIMESNEWS - Opal K. Hagedorn, 75, a former Des Moines resident, died Saturday at the Virginia Gay Annex where she had been a resident three years.

She was born Nov. 18, 1904 at Backes, Minn., a daughter of Jesse Hiram and Lovicy C, Otterson Helmer. She was married Sept. 20, 1922 to James Palmer, who died Oct. 13, 1954. She married John Hagedorn, Dec. 8, 1958. She was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Des Moines.

Surviving are her husband of Des Moines, four sons, Maurice Palmer of Alton, Ill., Donald Palmer of Moline, Ill., Harry Palmer and Derry Palmer of Mount Auburn; three daughters, Mrs. Joyce Brandon of Renton, Wash., Mrs. Richard (Irene) Arrowood of Des Moines and Mrs. John (Norma Jean) Wilson of Ankeny; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Gustafson and Mrs. Ava Helmer of Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by one daughter and three brothers.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Richard Arrowood officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Campbell Russell funeral home after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.
