Saturday, August 4, 2001PETER JAMES KELLEHER went on to be with the Lord on August 1, 2001. He was born July 1, 1924, Irish Settlement, near Cummings, Iowa. He was born to Ellen Cecelia and Thomas Francis Kelleher the 6th of 14 brothers and sisters. He married Darleen Cecelia Gorsche August 16, 1947.
He served in WWII, received three Bronze Battle Stars, a Purple Heart and served in the European Front as a paratrooper in the 80th Airborne. He was later employed by Union Carbide Corporation – Linde Division for 38 years, and retired in 1984.
He was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church for 40 years, and was ordained in to the Permanent Deaconate in 1973. Deacon Pete faithfully served for 25 years at both St. Christopher and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Churches.
Deacon Pete enjoyed such hobbies as restoring his 1928 Model A Ford and reading mystery and Western novels.
Deacon Pete is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Darlene, beloved children and their spouses: Pete & Jo Kelleher; Kathy & Andy Lopez; Cecelia & Lynn McDonald; Becky & Denny Duncan; Kevin & Marion Kelleher; Danny, Theresa and Mary Kelleher; 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Mike Kelleher of Des Moines, IA; Agnes McLaughlin of Cummings, IA; Sue Gollon of Santa Fe, NM; Rita Rooney, Maxwell, LA; Gretchen Wilson of Aurora, CO and Liz Shaffer, Boston, MA.
Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M. on Friday, August 3, 2001 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Vigil at 7:30 P.M. Friday night at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 8150 Park Place., Houston, TX. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, August 4, at the church. Rite of Christian Burial will be at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made c/o Casa Juan Diego.
