Larry Gilbertson, 80, of Churdan, formerly of Creston, died Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Accura Care in Ogden. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday January 17, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Rod Block will officiate. The services will be live streamed. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences may be made at powersfh.com.

Larry Dean Gilbertson was born April 1, 1944, in Greenfield, Ia. to Raymond Ordean Gilbertson and Clara Cathleen (Clark) Gilbertson. Larry grew up an only child following his infant sister Helen “Baby” Ruth Gilbertson went to heaven prior to his birth. He attended Greenfield Schools.

Larry found his love for trucking while working various jobs in life. He enjoyed being out on the road. At times it was hauling mail and newspapers, other times it was just to go out and drive. He also enjoyed his lawn care service for many years.

Larry married Doris Jean (Barnes) on August 14, 1965, in Creston. They first settled in Atlantic, Ia. They were blessed with three children, Brenda Sue, Shelley Marie, and Daniel Ray. Tragedy struck November 27, 1981, when they lost Brenda to be with the Lord. They made several other moves before settling in Churdan, Ia. in 1997.

He loved his church, his Dale Earnhart collections and watching the races on Sundays. Larry did not know a stranger, if you could not find him, he was often off visiting with someone. In his spare time after retirement he enjoyed fishing, watching old westerns, country music shows, hanging out with his pets, family, and friends. Some of his close friends and family knew him as Deacon.

Larry is survived by daughter Shelley Gilbertson (Keith Long) of Dayton, IA.; son Danny (Michele) Gilbertson of Jefferson, Ia.; grandchildren, Star, Robin, Robert (Bubba) Thoma, Elizabeth, Cody and Sadie, and his many great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Bob (Jean) Barnes of Atlantic, Ia., nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris in 2018, his sister Helen “Baby” Ruth, his daughter Brenda and other family members.
