Military Funeral Held Monday for Knute Hanson
Long Time Resident Dies at Sioux Falls Veterans HospitalMilitary funeral honors were given Monday, August 14, by the American Legion Rex Strait Post 103, for Knute Hanson. Mr. Hanson died at the veteran’s hospital in Sioux Falls, Thursday, August 10 after a long illness. Immediate cause of death was bronchial pneumonia.
Rev Huscher conducted the service in the Methodist church and at Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were M. R. Murray, David Bernstein, J W Forcster, Frank Joelyn, Lee Austin, and R. H. Rhode Color guards and color bearers were Don Bryan, sr., H. H. Folkens, Earl Hefferman and E. B. Carson.
Knute Hanson was born at Beaver Creek, Minn. March 23, 1890. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Hanson, sr.
The Hanson family moved to Rock Rapids in 1895. Knute attended the public schools here and was graduated from Wilson high school.
He entered military service July 23, 1918, and received his discharge January 9, 1919. Following his period of service, he was active in the American Legion and served as commander in 1926.
Knute Hanson was married to Sadie Stewart, August 17, 1920, by Rev. E. H. Heverly of LaPorte City. They adopted one boy, Lloyd Eugene when he was four years old. Lloyd now lives in Long Beach, Calif.
Hanson had been a familiar figure in Rock Rapids for many years. He has been associated in the tailoring and cleaning business with his father and brother, Gib. His father started the business 55 years ago when they arrived in Rock Rapids in 1895.
Surviving is his wife, Sadie; son Lloyd and wife, Lucille and grandson, Michael; three brothers, Gilbert of Rock Rapids, Olaf of Beresford, S. D., and Alfred of Rock Island, Illinois, five sisters Mary (Mrs. Joe Zeug) of Rock Rapids, Linda Moeller, Rock Rapids, Julia (Mrs. Ira Durham) of San Diego, Calif., and Clara (Mrs. Clarence Anderson) of Huntington Park, Calif.
