Viola Meiburg was born on Jan. 4, 1913 north of Inwood, IA, daughter of Herman & Mary (Serck) Hanzen. She attended country school in the Inwood area. Viola married Louie B. Watke on Sept. 20, 1939 in Rock Rapids, IA.

Together they began farming 8 miles east of Inwood & then in the early 1950s they moved 5 miles south of Rock Rapids. They then purchased a farm 1 mile north of Doon where they retired. Louie died Fe. 28, 1976. Viola moved to Inwood shortly after Louie's death.

Viola married Erwin Meiburg on Dec. 26, 1979 at Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord, IA. Together they lived in Inwood. Erwin died on Apr. 23, 2002.

Viola was baptized & confirmed in the Christ Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church & enjoyed helping out there. Viola also loved to play bingo & card games; it gave her a chance to have fellowship with many people which she was well known for.

Viola died Fri. Aug. 9, 2002 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 89.

Surviving relative include her brother, Milo Hanzen, of Inwood, IA; one sister-in-law Gladys Hanzen of Doon, IA; one brother-in-law Harley Meiburg of Rock Rapids, IA; one uncle Emil Serck of Inwood; 6 nieces, Judy De Boer, Pam Van Voorst, Cherrie Hill, Jill Anderson, Teri Haga & Tami Soukup; 1 nephew Daryl Hanzen; Erwin's 6 children & families - Eileen Meiburg, Barbara & Mark Carroll, Douglas & Vicki Meiburg, Leon & Linda Meiburg, Dean Meiburg, & Gaylen Meiburg; 8 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Louie & Erwin; one brother, Walter Hanzen, & 1 grandson Bret Meiburg.
