Erwin William Meiburg, 85, of Inwood died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord, Iowa. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Erwin was born March 7, 1917, on the Meiburg homestead south of Rock Rapids, the son of Henry and Meta (Reimers) Meiburg. After graduating from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids, he continued to help his brother and mother farm the homestead.

He married Elsie Klutman on Feb. 23, 1946, in Rock Rapids. Together they lived on the family homestead, where he farmed, fed cattle and served as director of Doon 1 Country School for many years. Elsie died Aug. 23, 1967. Erwin received a Century Farm Plaque at the 1985 Iowa State Fair.

He married Viola Hanzen Watke on Dec. 26, 1979, at Christ Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Inwood.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; four sons, Douglas and his wife, Vicki of North Branch, Mich., Leon and his wife, Linda of Rock Rapids, Dean of Coralville, Iowa, and Gaylen of Melvin, Iowa; two daughters, Eileen Meiburg of Cottage Grove, Minn., Barbara and her husband, Mark Carroll, of Columbus Junction, Iowa; a brother, Harley of Rock Rapids; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bret Meiburg; a brother, Ray Meiburg; and two sisters, Erma Meiburg and Henrietta Roberts.
