Mrs. Mary E. Thorley passed away at her home in Columbus Junction, Friday morning, August 13, after a lingering illness. Mary E. Long was born in Huron county, Ohio, October 14, 1846 and was married to Silas Thorley, October 2, 1871, at West Salem, Ohio. Soon after their marriage they came to Wilton Junction, Ia. They returned to Ohio for a few years and in the spring of 1901 moved to Hiawatha, Kansas, where they resided a short time, when they came to Columbus City where Mr. Thorley died in December, 1902.

Mrs. Thorley has resided in Columbus Junction since 1903. They were the parents of two children Clarence and Fred. Mrs. Thorley was a member of the Evangelical church and later of the Methodist Episcopal church. The funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment was made at Columbus City cemetery.
