Mary Reymer, daughter of George and Elizabeth Deihl Reymer, was born near Greencastle, Franklin county, Penn., March 29, 1835 and passed away at her home in Wapello, aged 80 years, 2 months and 28 days. In company with her sister Mattie, she came to Iowa in 1857 to visit her uncle John Deihl. Both intended to return to Pennsylvania after the visit, but Mattie was united in marriage to Mathew Jamison and did not return; so Mary decided to stay and make her home with them, which she did till the end; living in the Bethel neighborhood till this spring when the family moved to Wapello.

There were but three children in the family and the father and mother died when the children were very young and they were raised by two aunts, Mary and Lydia Deihl. Michael Deihl Reymer, the brother, died in 1876 and Mrs. Mattie Jamison, her sister, died in 1908 and with the death of Mary the last of the family departs. She was always proud of her family and name and strove to live so that she would honor it. Two of her uncles were ministers in the Lutheran church and she united with that church when very young.

She united with the Methodist church at Bethel because there was no Lutheran church near. She never forgot her obligation to her church and she likewise felt her need of the help that the church brought her. She was a woman who never found fault with anyone. She was of a retiring disposition and did not make friends easily but once she made a friends she retained them. During the last weeks of her life which ended not because of any sickness but rather just old age, she seemed to be living again in her old girlhood days and called for her Aunt Lydia and for her Aunt Mary and spoke of her father, George Reymer.

She leaves to mourn her departure the children of the sister in whose home she had spent her life, Gertrude, Myrtle, E. R. and W. B. Jamison, to whom she seemed more like a mother than an aunt, 5 great nieces and 4 great nephews, besides a host of friends. The funeral services were held in Bethel church and Rev. A. W. McBlain preached the sermon. She was laid to rest beside her sister in Bethel cemetery.
