Page 1Mrs. Lavina J. Jobs Bevans was born in Darke county, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1843 and passed to her reward from her home here in Wapello, March 4, 1915, aged 72 years and 11 days. On Feb. 18, 1872, she was married to James J. Bevans in Ohio, and to this union there were born five children. Henry Ray, the first born and Harry Lewis, the last born both died in infancy. The other children are: Lorin A. Bevans, of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Maude Lesnet, of Wapello, Iowa; Alonzo F. Bevans, of Pekin, Ill. These with three grandchildren remain to mourn her death.
Mrs. Bevans was one of a family of nine all of whom have crossed the river before her. Her husband departed this life Sept. 19, 1913. Four years ago her health began to fail, she never had been rugged, and two years ago she was an invalid and seldom could get out. She gradually grew weaker until the end came quietly and peacefully.
She with her husband moved to Louisa county in 1878 and with the exception of 3 years in Illinois, all the rest of her life was spent in this county. She professed conversion in the M. E. church at Morning Sun in 1890 and then united with the church of which she remained a faithful member until the last. Mrs. Bevans was a faithful attendant at all the church services whenever possible. The funeral services were held in the first Methodist church and the sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. A. W. McBlain and she was laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery by the side of her husband..
