Page 1On Monday, October 7, at 2 p. m. at the home of his son, George W. Havenhill, in Wapello, Alexander Hamilton Havenhill died, aged 76 years, 7 months and 18 days. Mr. Havenhill was born in Lincoln county, Kentucky on July 9th, 1839. On the 21st of May, 1857, he was married to Miss Pamelia A. Kark, in Illinois. To them were born ten children, two of the sons have died. His children surviving him are: Mrs. L. J. Martin, of Madison, S. Dak.; Mrs. Wm. Riggle, of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Lee Riggle and Mrs. Bert Lemon, of Winfield, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Perkins, Samuel H. Havenhill, George W. Havenhill, of Wapello, Iowa and W. L. Havenhill, of Lenox, Iowa.
In 1858 of 1859 he came to Iowa and settled near Cairo, in Louisa county, where he made his home until the death of his wife which occurred on the 30th of March, 1894. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. G., 19th Iowa Infantry and served his country through the war of the Rebellion. Since the death of his wife he has made his home with his children and was at the home of his son, Samuel, when his last illness began to manifest itself. On the 2nd of September he was brought to the home of his son, George, where on last Monday afternoon he fell asleep. Besides his eight children, he leaves twenty-six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held from the residence of his son, George, in Wapello, at 10 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) morning and were confuted by Rev. E. C. Brooks, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church. His remains were taken from interment to the Cairo cemetery, where they were buried with the ceremonies of the G. A. R.
