Morning Sun News-Herald: The entire community was greatly saddened Monday by the news of the death of Milton P. Caldwell, whose home is south of town. He passed away at Burlington hospital, where he had been a patient for a couple of weeks. He had undergone an operation a few days before for the removal of a cataract from one of his eyes. The eye was getting along all right but other complications set in and death came as noted above.

The funeral services were held from the United Presbyterian church in this city Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by his pastor, Rev. R. H Park, assisted by Rev. Fred Elliott, of Indianola, Iowa, a former pastor and by Revs Trumbull and Cameron, of this city. The interment was in Elmwood cemetery.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, February 19, 1834 and lived in that state until 1854, when they moved to Illinois. Here they remained until 1859, when they came to Des Moines county. In the war he served in Company G, 39th Iowa Infantry. He married Miss Martha Ellen Williams, on January 13, 1866. To them six children were born. His death will be mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
