Mississippi Flood

My grandmother's family (Junge) came to Ft. Madison about 1855. When I was little she talked about there being a big flood on the Mississippi River and the bridge across to Illinois was washed out. The only reason I remember was that she said one of her relatives was the last person to cross the bridge before it gave away. I wondered if anyone had heard about a flood between 1860 and 1900 or so that did away with a a bridge to Ft. Madison - and when was it? Thanks - Betty Carson
