Marjorie Grace Apple was born December 25, 1913, in Algona daughter of Floyd Milton and Grace Viola (Dodds) Turner. She grew up in Algona and graduated from Algona High School. Marjorie then taught rural schools in Titonka, Plum Creek, Sexton, and Hobarton.
Marjorie married Avery Apple on November 10, 1944 in San Diego, CA. They were married for eight years living in California and Dallas, Texas. Marjorie moved to Algona for a short time before working at Meredith Publishing in Des Moines. She then returned to Algona working at St. Cecelia Catholic Rectory as a housekeeper and then worked as an assistant librarian at the Algona High School Library until retiring at 80 years old.
Family and her church were very important to Marjorie. She was a member of Algona First United Methodist Church serving as president of UMW, circle chair, teaching bible school and adult bible class, and was a youth Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, the Kossuth Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Algona Garden Club. She enjoyed music, photography, flowers, and hiking.
Marjorie G. Apple died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona at the age of 90. She had been a resident there since June, 1997.
She is survived by two children, Nancy Shipler and her husband Erby, Algona, and Robbie Apple and his wife Judy, Baker City, OR; a daughter-in-law, Carol Apple, Sherwood, OR; six grandchildren, Glori Schuneman and her husband Ken, Algona, Ricky Shipler, Crete, NE, Sarah and Amanda Apple, both of Sherwood, OR, and Travis and Buck Apple, Baker City, OR; four great-grandchildren, Kim and Brian Petersen, Algona, and Ashley and Brandon Shipler, Crete, NE; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Apple; and two sisters, Ruby Walton, and Pauline DeKruif.
