On September 1, 1862 there were Privates George W. Payton and George W. Payton, Jr., listed in Company B of the Iowa 33rd INF. The 1880 Keokuk County History Book has a William and Mrs. Mary Crawford Payton living in German TWP of Keokuk County. I didn't find an Edwards or Payton connection in the 1870 census of Keokuk County. The Keokuk County courthouse marriage records begin in 1880. Sorry we don't have an immediate answer for you.
