"From 1890 history of Keokuk County": Born and raised in Virginia. Employed as clerk in store while young, he left Virginia in 1836 for Texas. Enlisted in 16th Regiment Volunteer Infantry and served in the Mexican war reaching rank of Major. At conclusion of war moved to farm in Missouri where he remained until 1862. In 1862 moved to Delta, Iowa area where he continued to farm. He owned 220 acres of good land which was all improved by him, located at section 17, Warren Township, Keokuk County, Iowa. (personal note: Both he and wife Rachel are buried at Tioga Cemetery in Keokuk County, Iowa.)
"From 1902 history of Keokuk County": He married Rachel Summers, a native of Virginia, and they became the parents of five sons, of whom four are yet living, as follows: Junius A., James A., Carrie S., and Wilson B. It was in the year 1863 that the father (Wilson Cary Hamilton) came to Iowa, settling in Keokuk county. Soon afterward he purchased a farm of one hundred and sixty acres, the greater part of which was still in its primitive condition, but with characteristic energy he began to clean and cultivate his land and in the course of time it was transformed into rich fields. He carried on agricultural pursuits until his death, which occurred on the old family homestead in Warren township, in March, 1899, when he had reached the ripe old age of eighty-four years. His political support as given the Democracy.

From the History of Putnam County, State of Missouri, 1888: "February 5, 1849, township 65, range 17, was organized for school purposes. Wilson C. Hamilton was appointed commissioner, and David David Snyder and Wade H. Kerby were appointed inspectors."
