Wood(s) family

Tracing Seth Wood(s) s. Shawnee, OK via his father Eliphalet Wood(s) d. Jones Co., IA via cenuses, and other family history I found their surname was Wood in Morris County, NJ where the family live since moving from Suffolk Co, NY (long Island) about 1710. They were English Presbyterians. In Iowa the name changed to Woods. Not sure why. I have Eliphalet's father as Isaac who was the son of Reuben, 1744-1801, Rev War pvt. I cannot go back directly. I do see an Eliphalet and Jonas/John in Suffolk Co. NY but cannot link them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
