I have an Obituary from my Great-Great Grandmother.
Mary Jane Gaule (McCourt)
Dec. 12, 1923. It states that she was born in Jones County March 2, 1858. It also states that her mother died when Mary was about 6. Her father was John McCourt from Ireland. It states that her mother was born in Ireland. I have a census from 1856 in Jones County for John,25 3 years in Iowa and Catherine 22 0 years in Iowa, both born in Ireland. Living nearby are 2 Flanagan families. I have a marriage record for John McCourt and Mary Flanighan, Jones County, April 20, 1856. I then have a John McCourt and Sally Connelly married in 1866. Since his first wife died about 1864 this could be my John. Mary Jane was an only child that I know of. My grandmother was raised by her. I cannot find any death record for John's first wife who I believe was Mary Catherine Flanagan. Possibly daughter of Patrick and Bridget. John died Oct. 5, 1907 in Chickasaw Co at the County Poor Farm. Any help would be appreciated.
