1879 Jones Co History pg 637
J C Austin born in Orange Co., Vt in 1827 and in 1836 to Kane Co., ILL and remained there until 1854, when he came to IA and entered 600 acres and now owns 400 acres on which he has made all of the improvements. He has been Road Supervisor and Justice of the Peace. Enlisted in August, 1862 and was elected Captain of Co. G, 31st I V I, mustered out in Febr 1863 on account of disability. His wife, Helen M Thurston, was born in Genesee Co., NY in 1832; came to Illinois and was married in 1851,in ILL; they have 3 children-- Frank E, agent of the CM & St. P RR at Hale; Edmond F, merchant at Olin; George T., attending the farm with his father. In politics, Republican; in religion, liberal.

The 1910 Jones Co. history says that F E Austin's wife is Ida L Lamb and they live in Cedar Rapids, IA (Linn Co.).

Edmund F Austin is buried in the Wyoming Cem. He died 09/16/1880 at the age of 25. The burial lot was owned by J C Austin.
