Connie,

I always remind people that Illinois has a state census for 1855. This census is on alphabetized index cards at the Illinois State Archives in Springfield, IL. http://www.sos.state.il.us

You can e-mail a request (or send a letter request) for two names at a time.

If your information is correct, you should see at least one of the children in that census with some kind of adult relative...

Just a suggestion.
