OLIN - Gerald Duncan Kruse, 70, died Friday, Dec. 10 at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at the Olin Methodist church, Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence R. Odegard conducted the service. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included Howard Cruise, Alex Inglis, Virgil Vernon, Arlo McCormick, Willard Hoyman and Arno Lawson.

Mrs. Ron Rogers was organist and Loren Hartwig, soloist. Graveside Masonic service was conducted by Dean Henderson and members of Ancient Landmark Masonic lodge.

Gerald Kruse was born Dec. 1, 1901 the son of Henry and Kathryn Duncan Kruse, Hale. He attended elementary schools in Hale and graduated from high school in Wyoming. He attended Iowa State college, Ames, majoring in mechanical engineering. He received his B.S. degree in 1926. He was a member of the Taue Beta Pi, honorary engineering fraternity, and of the Acacia fraternity. After college he farmed with his father in Hale and worked as an electrician.

Following his marriage to Marion Grant in 1931 he was self-employed in electrical work until 1942 when, as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy, he was sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In 1944 he settled in Stanwood; he was employed as an electrical engineer by La Plante Choate Co., (now Allis-Chalmers), Cedar Rapids. In 1946 he began an electrical and appliance business in Olin; in 1949 he moved to Olin and gave his full attention to this business. He moved to the family farm in Hale in the late 1960's.

He was a member of the Olin United Methodist church, Masonic Lodge 200 and the Hale Community club.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; two sons, Sydney Kruse, Hale, Dr. Steven Kruse, Slater; six grandchildren; a sister, Helen, and his mother, Mrs. Kathryn Kruse, both of Iowa City.
