I may have a possible connection to this Robert ROSS:
a Robert Eston ROSS m. 1860 (no specific date) Ellen McKINNEY, widow of Walter KINNAMON, in Iowa City, Johnson Co. They then moved to Keokuk Co, probably Adams Co. There, Robert Eston ROSS died, 16 June 1867. An excerpt from his will was sent to me several years ago by a half-cousin from the KINNAMON-McKINNEY marriage. In it, he mentions his widow, Ellen, then the following people:
Daniel ROSS, age 38, of Iowa City
Hester A ROSS, 33, of Iowa (state or city?)
Effie ROSS, 30, no place
Elizabeth ROSS, 26, Iowa
Margaret E ROSS, 20, Keokuk Co, Iowa
Robert ROSS, 16, same
Alfred S, 6, same
John W, 3, sameAlfred S is actually known to us as Abraham Lincoln ROSS, but he is listed on the 1895 census for Jackson Twp, Poweshiek Co als Alfred Abraham Lincoln ROSS with his new family. He was born in Johnson Co, on 26 Jan 1861.
The dates leave a lot of questions, obviously, but the names listed on the will, with their ages, match with the dates you have for Robert ROSS's children here. The fact that Anna/Anne is still on the 1860 census is curious, if this does turn out to be the same man....
