Marlis Marie Van Loh, 93, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Solon, Iowa passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025.

Marlis was born on August 3, 1931, in Mobridge, South Dakota, daughter of Arthur L. Nortwed and Ruby Mae Harris. Marlis earned her degree in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa in 1976, a testament to her lifelong dedication to helping others. She worked at Hospice at one time, providing compassionate care to those in need. She had a deep appreciation for photography, traveling, and collecting antiques, passions she pursued while raising her children and caring for numerous foster children over the years.

Marlis is survived by her three loving children, Dean (Jane) of Iowa City, Lori of Cedar Rapids, and Tim of Cedar Rapids; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) of North Liberty, and Michael of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grandchildren, Orren Dean Van Loh, and “Baby” Van Loh, who is expected to arrive in March 2025.

Marlis was a very sweet and kind person who also extended her love to all animals. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Donald F Chadima, and former spouse, Calvin M Van Loh.
