I will try to explain the l856 census boundaries
for Fairfield Township in which the Guthrie
family lived. At that time Fairfield township
covered the present Center township , and the whole west 1/2 of Buchanan township. I am guessing it was about l900 when Buchanan was created.

I went thru the names of the Guthries neighbors
and numerous ones were farmers. In the part #1
you find names of lawyers, merchants, "chiefs"
so feel as a bricklayer he lived in the town of
Fairfield itself, but on the outskirts of town.

He is listed in part #2 of Fairfield township
Do you think he might have owned a home? I noted
his occupation and several in the same household
were evidently rooming with the family. also that
he had come to the county in l855. (here one year
in that special census column)
