Thanks, Mary! I have had several people looking for info for me about these people and I do appreciate it. Yes, you no doubt, did research for me in Ottumwa as my Clara HAMPTON'S oldest daughter, Ada, was my paternal grandmother and she,(Ada) married in Ottumwa in 1892. Ada never told my Dad, her only child, anything about her family and that's why I know so little about them. Clara gave Ada for adoption in 1882 to an Eliza WILLARD in Ottumwa. It was a long time before I discovered that Ada was not a biological child of the Willards. She went to her grave never revealing she'd been adopted.
I traced Clara HAMPTON back to Ohio where she was married. I know her brother and sisters' names and have tried to trace each of them to see if Clara might show up in any of their histories. Last year I found her brother, Harmon STIDGER, who at one time lived in Fairfield, IA, had eventually moved back to Ohio. I have his obit, both in the Columbus OH newspaper where he died, as well as the article about him in the Fairfield newspaper. He died in 1926 but his obituary does not give his sister, Clara, as a survivor.
I hope to get some Fairfield newspapers thru interlibrary loan to read, hopefully, to find any bit of news that may have been published about her. My Dad said his mother (Ada) had a sister who went to San Francisco and died in the 1902 earthquake. For some unknown reason, I never asked him her name. This was long before I began researching our family history.
Thank you again, for your help.
