I am trying to find more info on any possible relatives/descendants of Erick Andersson.
Erik Gustaf Andersson, from Sjöanda, Dalhem parish in Kalmar county, received his passport in Kalmar 3 Apr 1849 for himself and his wife, Catharina Margaretha Andersdotter.
They sailed on the Charles Tottie(Charles Tuttle) from Göteborg and arrived at New York 12 Jul 1849. From there they moved to New Sweden, IA, where the husband changed his name to SMITH.
Erik and Catherine Smith were charter members of The New Sweden Lutheran Church near Lockridge.
Article from the Fairfield Daily Ledger 1-24-1894. Four Corners.
Erick Smith was born 11-1-1813, died 1-9-1894. He, with his wife, came from Sweden in 1849, cleared a place in the forest two miles north of Lockridge and made that place his continuous residence. Six of his seven children now living are: Gust, Charles, and David of Lockridge; Alex of Montana; Mrs. Sarah McIntosh of Burlington; Mrs. Nelson of northern Iowa. He was one of the founders of the first Swedish Lutheran Church in Iowa and was a staunch and able defender of his faith.
There is a somewhat recent gravestone for Erick and his wife at the New Sweden Church Cemetery. Curious as to who purchased it. They both passed away over 100 years ago.
